Wildcat bats come alive in 9-4 win over Nichols

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Jack Dwyer ripped a three-run double to propel the JWU (Providence) baseball team to a 9-4 win over Nichols College Tuesday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Junior Diego Taveras and sophomore Yedan Diaz each picked up three hits and drove in two runs as the Wildcats improved to 4-9 in conference play (11-20 overall) and remained alive for a playoff berth.

Taveras and freshman Dimitri Staphos each drove in a run in a three-run first to give JWU a 3-1 advantage. In the fourth, Diaz singled in both redshirt senior Ryan Ducey and sophomore Jeremy Auren to push the Wildcat lead to 6-3 before Dwyer's bases-clearing double in the sixth capped the scoring.

Redshirt sophomore Dylan Young notched his second win of the season as he allowed four hits and four runs (two earned) with one walk and six strikeouts. Sophomore Michael Cobb allowed just one hit and struck out five to earn a three-inning save.
