Mason goes deep in split with Corsairs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team split its non-conference doubleheader with UMass Dartmouth Thursday afternoon at the Scott Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 7, Corsairs 3
Senior Olivia Mason smacked a two-run home run – her first of the season – and sparked a five-run fifth to propel the Wildcats to a win in the opener. First-year Abigail Hanna drove in her first two collegiate runs with a single to right and junior Chloe Brunelle doubled to left to plate another. Senior Mady Lyons finished with three hits and classmate Jadyn Torres went 2-for-4. Senior Jillian Reed moved to 7-4 with the win as she allowed six hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk and one strikeout over seven.

Game Two: Corsairs 7, Wildcats 3
Junior Macy Pagano laced a two-run single in the first and Torres plated sophomore Hailey Cardiello with a double in the fourth to account for the Wildcats (10-14) scoring. The Corsairs (18-8) broke a two-all tie with three runs in the fourth before tacking on three in the sixth. Junior Madi Wong took the loss as she allowed eight hits and five runs in 3.0 innings of work.
