WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman
Riley Shepley racked up five points for the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team in a 15-10 defeat at Westfield State University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field.
Shepley potted four goals and added an assist for the Wildcats (1-2), who also received three goals and an assist from classmate
Sidney Mayers and a pair of markers from sophomore
Kelsey Higgins.
Freshman
Keira Donegan won a team-high four draw controls for JWU, which also received four ground balls from Higgins. Freshman
Anna Barber got the start in goal and allowed 10 goals, finishing with one save. Classmate
Carley Cook came on in relief and recorded four saves.
The Owls scored seven of the first eight goals and led 10-3 five minutes into the second. The Wildcats closed the half with four unanswered goals – two off the stick of Shepley – to climb to within three at halftime at 10-7.
Shepley and Mayers opened the second-half scoring and cut the JWU deficit to one at 10-9 before the Owls ripped off four-straight to lead 14-9 lead after three.
The Wildcats outshot the Owls 31-26 and won 14-of-27 draw controls.
