Lancers strong second half helps them past Wildcats

WORCESTER, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team fell to Worcester State University 23-9 Tuesday night in non-conference action at John Coughlin Field.

Freshman Cassie Burke scored a team-high three goals for the Wildcats (1-3), who held a 7-4 lead early in the second before being outscored 19-2 over the final 40+ minutes. Classmate Riley Shepley collected four points (1-3-4) while sophomore Kelsey Higgins notched a goal and an assist.

Burke scored three times in the opening 16:55 of the contest to stake the visitors to a three-goal lead. The Lancers ripped off 11 unanswered goals to move in front 15-7 with 6:58 remaining in the third.

First-year student-athletes Bailey Paige and Giovanna Gulinello added second-half markers for JWU, which received four ground balls from senior Fara Holland and four draw controls from freshman Keira Donegan.
