CARY, N.C. – Junior Jeff Valdez Jimenez plated two runs and freshman Justin Hernandez drove in another for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 9-4 loss to William Peace University Thursday night in non-conference action at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Valdez Jimenez and redshirt senior Ryan Ducey each finished with two hits and freshman Sam Schoenberg scored twice for the Wildcats (1-3). Junior Henry Melanson recorded one hit and drew three walks as JWU tallied eight hits.

The Wildcats struck for two in the third to grab a 2-1 lead before the Pacers answered with three in the fourth to move in front, 4-2. Three run-scoring singles in the sixth by the home team extended its lead to 9-3.

JWU junior starter Dylan Young was tagged for five hits and four runs in 3.1 innings of work and took the loss. He walked three and struck out five. Sophomore Joaquin Cardoso came on in relief and surrendered five hits and five runs (four earned) with two walks and three punchouts in 2.1 IP.
