Cassie Burke each scored five goals to lead the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team to a 20-9 win over Suffolk University Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at East Boston Memorial Park.
First-year
Riley Shepley added four goals and an assist for the Wildcats, who evened the conference record at 2-2 with the win (3-5 overall). Classmate
Sidney Mayers added three goals, and first-years
Addison Stratton (1-1-2) and
Rhya Saloom (2G) each added two points for JWU.
Higgins scored four first-half goals to help the Wildcats build a 10-7 halftime lead. Burke then struck for four goals over the final 30 minutes as JWU outscored the Rams 10-2 in the second half.
JWU outshot Suffolk 40-20 and won 17 draw controls, including nine by first-year
Keira Donegan. Junior
Alyssa Morrison and sophomore
Susannah Brown each collected five ground balls while Morrison caused a team-high four turnovers.
Freshman
Carley Cook came on in relief of senior
Kylie O'Keefe in the second and turned aside six shots in 36:55 of action to help lock down the win.
