MEDFIELD, Mass. – Senior
Jack Obert went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 7-6 loss at Tufts University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Sol Gittleman Park.
Junior
Henry Melanson notched two hits and redshirt senior
Ryan Ducey laced a two-run double to help the Wildcats (2-5) build a 5-1 lead with nine outs to go. Sophomore
Jeremy Auren drove in a run with a single in the eighth and junior
Diego Taveras lifted a sac fly to record an RBI.
Obert's round tripper in the first gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead. After the Jumbos pulled even in their half of the frame, the game remained deadlocked at one until JWU put up a four-spot to move ahead. Ducey's double, followed by a run-scoring double off the bat of Obert, sparked the rally.
The Jumbos (5-0) scratched across a pair in their half of the seventh before Auren plated Melanson in the eighth to make it a 6-3 game. Tufts then rallied for three in the bottom of the frame to tie the game and walked it off in the ninth on back-to-back doubles.
Eight different student-athletes took the bump for the Wildcats, including freshman
Jake Scharlat, who fanned a pair in a scoreless inning of work.
