Women's Basketball runs win streak to 11 with win at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) women's basketball team ran its win streak to 11 with a 60-54 win at Roger Williams University Tuesday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

Sophomore Isabella Suero paced the Wildcats (20-4, 14-1 CNE) with 16 points while classmate Brianne Foley recorded 15 points and four rebounds. The win secures the No. 1 seed and homecourt advantage in next week's CNE Tournament. It also gives the Wildcats an 11-game win streak for the second-consecutive season and third time in the last 10 years.

Sophomore Grace Jaffray tallied eight points, five rebounds, and three steals for head coach Dino Porcic. Senior Mikayla Caruso filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four points, and three blocks while freshman Julia Blum also snared seven boards.

The Wildcats knocked down 38 percent of their shots and canned 12-of-16 from the charity stripe. Defensively, they held the Hawks (13-11, 9-6 CNE) to 25 percent shooting (15-of-59).

JWU trailed by five at halftime (32-27) before outscoring the Hawks 16-7 in the third to grab a 43-39 lead. The lead grew to as many as nine following a pair of free throws from Suero early in the fourth before the Hawks ripped off a 13-2 run to take a one-point lead with 1:31 remaining in the fourth.

Suero answered at the other end with a layup at 1:12 to put the Wildcats back on top, 55-54. Following a RWU miss, Jaffrey converted a layup with 29 seconds remaining to push the lead to three. She later added two free throws to pad the lead.
