Hawks leave Providence with 69-64 win over JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Brianne Foley filled the stat sheet with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in a 69-64 loss for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team against the University of Hartford Tuesday night in Conference of New England action at the Wildcat Center.

The New Rochelle, New York native knocked down 7-of-14 from the field and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe as the Wildcats fell to 9-4 on the season (3-1 CNE). JWU was outrebounded 41-28 and dropped their second home game of the season despite forcing 20 turnovers which led to 19 points.

Sophomore Grace Jaffray scored 18 points to go with five boards and three steals in 39 minutes of action. Classmate Mia Cruz sparked JWU off the bench with eight points and four dimes while sophomore Isabella Suero connected on three from downtown and finished with nine points.

The Hawks (6-7, 3-1 CNE) led 14-9 after one and held a four-point lead at the half (35-31) as Foley and Jaffray combined to score 20 of the Wildcats 31 points. The visitors were w perfect 6-of-6 from three through the opening 20.

The Wildcats trailed by five entering the fourth (53-48) and climbed to within three with 1:18 remaining following a pair of Foley free throws. Following a turnover at the other end, Suero missed a jumper and the rebound was corralled by Hartford, which added two free throws to secure the win.

Hartford shot 44 percent from the field – including 10-of-14 from behind the arc (71 pct.) compared to 39 pct for JWU (8-of-24 three-pointers).
