BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore
Grace Jaffray poured in a game-high 33 points to propel the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team to a 76-67 win over Suffolk University Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.
The Blue Hill, Maine also snared nine boards and dished out four assists as the Wildcats improved to 10-4 on the season (4-1 CNE). Jaffray also knocked down 16-of-17 from the charity stripe in 37 minutes of action.
Sophomore
Brianne Foley shot 7-of-15 from the field and made three triples to finish with 19 points, five boards, and five dimes for JWU. Senior
Mikayla Caruso collected nine points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks while freshman
Tahlia Peña scored seven off the bench.
Jaffray scored 16 of her points in the first half as the Wildcats built a 32-21 lead. The lead swelled to 15 after three quarters (56-41) before a layup from Jaffray two minutes into the fourth pushed the lead to 21 at 62-41.
The Rams reeled off a 17-5 run to climb to within nine points at 67-58 with three minutes remaining. Foley answered at the other end with a triple to extend the lead back to 12 points. Four free throws from Jaffray in the final 17 seconds sealed the win.
JWU finished the game shooting 36 percent and with a slim 48-47 edge on the glass.
