Wildcats pick up 75-49 win over Rams

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Alvin Baez collected 18 points and 12 rebounds to lift the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team to a thrilling 69-65 overtime win over Suffolk University Wednesday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Wildcat Center.

Sophomore Azariah Harrison added 13 points and six boards as the Wildcats improved to 3-16 on the season (2-8 CNE). Freshman Landon Bodington canned 5-of-7 from the field and finished with 11 points while graduate student Dylan Hooter scored six of his eight points in OT to go with six boards. Graduate student Silas Sawtelle and freshman Khalil Thompson each picked up eight points and four rebounds.

The Rams (11-8, 7-3 CNE) led by four with three minutes remaining in regulation (62-58) before a three from Harrison cut the Wildcats deficit to one. After the visitors made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe at the other end, Baez knocked down a jumper with 44 seconds on the clock to tie the game and force overtime.

Suffolk scored the first points of OT, however a thunderous dunk on the break and two free throws from Hooter gave JWU a 67-65 lead. The Landeville, Louisiana native finished off the win with a putback with 11 seconds remaining.

The Wildcats held a 40-36 edge on the glass, shot 40 percent from the field, and 16-of-20 from the line (80 pct.). Defensively, the Rams struggled from deep (6-of-26; 23 percent) and closed the night shooting 38 percent.
