Wildcats rally from two-goal deficit to defeat Rams, 5-3

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Marissa Lafferty broke a 3-3 tie with her first goal of the season with 5:50 remaining in the third to lift the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team to a 5-3 win over Suffolk University Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action at Lynch Arena.

Lafferty – along with senior Allyson Barry and sophomore Kailin Kane – all finished with a goal and an assist in a game which saw the Wildcats rally from a 2-0 second-period deficit to secure their seventh win of the season against eight losses and one tie (5-5-1 CNE). JWU outshot the Rams 51-14 on the night and outscored them 5-1 over the final 24:46 of regulation.

Barry got the Wildcats on the board at 15:14 of the second with a wrister from the point that rang off the left point and fell into the net. Less than three minutes later, sophomore Cailean Corbally's shot hit the stick of a Suffolk defender and floated over Rams netminder Katelyn Michals and into the net for her third of the year to tie the game.

Suffolk regained its two-goal lead 21 seconds into the third before sophomore b knocked the puck out of mid-air and past Michals at 6:12 to make it 3-2. Lafferty then collected her own rebound and fired a shot over Michals' shoulder for the GWG eight minutes later to give JWU its first lead of the day at 4-3. Kane capped off the win with an empty-netter at 19:52.

Sophomore Katelyn Cardoso needed to make just 11 saves to record her fourth win of the season. Sophomore Ava Morgan won 11-of-19 draws (58 pct.) while Kane led all student-athletes with nine shots.
