Adams picks up hat trick in 5-5 tie at Suffolk

Bergeron scores GWG in shootout

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Grace Adams picked up her first collegiate hat trick for the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team in a 5-5 tie with Suffolk University Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Porrazzo Skating Rink. The Wildcats went on to win the shootout, 3-2.

Junior Sadie Davignon and sophomore Ava Morgan also potted goals for the Wildcats, who outshot the Rams 47-28 and moved to 6-8-1 (4-5-1 CNE) with the draw. Sophomore Marissa Lafferty picked up two apples in the win and freshman netminder Avery Hall stopped 23 shots.

Adams and Morgan scored in the opening stanza to help JWU carry a 2-1 lead into the second. A shorthanded goal from Davignon and an even-strength marker from Adams in the opening 12 minutes of the second extended the Wildcats lead to 4-1 before the Rams ripped off three goals over the final nine minutes of the period to pull even at four.

Adams' third goal of the night at 8:46 of the third gave her team a one-goal lead, only to see the home team force OT with a goal at 13:55. The shootout last 11 rounds with Adams and senior Allyson Barry recording tucks for JWU; Barry's goal came in round three and send the game into sudden death.

The Wildcats had several chances to end the shootout before Bergeron capitalized on her attempt and ended the marathon. Suffolk finished the night 3-for-8 on the PP while the Wildcats went 1-for-4. Lafferty and Adams paced JWU with two blocked shots each.
