Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Inzirillo stops 49 in 5-3 win over No. 9 Curry

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Junior Harout Torosian scored the game-winning goal with 3:25 remaining in regulation and classmate Jake Inzirillo made 49 saves to lift the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team to its biggest win in years, a 5-3 triumph over nationally-ranked Curry College Saturday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.

The Colonels entered the contest ranked No. 9 in this week's United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III poll.

Eleven different Wildcats found their way into the scoring column tonight for head coach Eric Graham, including sophomore Bret Beale and freshman Thomas Jacques with two assists each. Juniors Joe Freeman, Connor Nelson, and Chris Alexander, along with freshman Jack Gerne, all had tucks for JWU, which killed off all six Curry power-play opportunities and won despite being outshot 52-18 – including 20-6 in the decisive third period.

The Wildcats (6-7-1, 4-5-0 CNE) carried a 3-1 lead into the third behind second-period goals from Alexander at 7:16 and Gerne at 15:47. The Colonels (11-5-0, 8-3-0 CNE) climbed to within one at 12:47 before Torosian finished off a pass from Beale for his first of the season. Nelson added an empty netter with 2:12 to go in regulation before Curry capped the scoring at 19:38.

Senior Davis Bone, along with juniors Brad Crook and Cullen Hennessey and sophomore Evan Gravel, all collected an assist in the win. Bone and Crook each blocked a team-high five shots while Bone won 11-of-18 face-offs. Inzirillo, meanwhile, was at his best in the third as he recorded 18 saves to earn his sixth win of the season.
