BOSTON, Mass. – Junior
Alvin Baez scored 16 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a 73-46 loss to Suffolk University Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.
The Providence, Rhode Island native also pulled down 10 rebounds to go with three steals in 35 minutes of action for the Wildcats (1-13, 0-5 CNE). The visitors were outscored 43-25 in the second half and finished the contest shooting 33 percent, compared to 57 percent for the Rams.
Graduate student
Silas Sawtelle added 10 points – highlighted by a pair of three-pointers – while freshman
Omar Grullon and
Khalil Thompson each scored six points. Graduate student
Dylan Hooter posted a team-high three blocks and also collected three steals.
JWU trailed by nine at the half (30-21) behind nine from Baez and five from Sawtelle. The Rams canned 69 percent of their second-half shot attempts (18-of-26) and closed the night with a 38-27 edge on the glass.
