JWU grabs early lead but drops 3-1 decision to Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman Ethan L'Italien scored his first collegiate goal for the JWU (Providence) men's soccer team in a 3-1 loss at Gordon College in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon at the Brighton Athletic Complex.

Junior Christopher Vargas was credited with an assist on the tally with came 72 seconds into the match and staked the Wildcats (3-3-3, 1-1-1 CNE) to a 1-0 lead. JWU was outshot in the match 8-6 and received three saves from junior goalkeeper Alexander Nardolillo.

An own goal at 18:29 allowed the Fighting Scots (4-3-1, 2-0-0 CNE) to draw even at one before a pair of second-half goals at 58:40 and 70:27 gave them the lead.

L'Italian accounted for three of the six Wildcats shots.
