PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior
Chad Parente scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half for the JWU (Providence) men's soccer team in a 2-1 win over Endicott College in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Homecoming Weekend Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Freshman
Storm de Jong added his first collegiate goal early in the second half as the Wildcats moved to 4-4-3 on the season (2-1-1 CNE). The home team outshot the Gulls 16-12.
Following a scoreless first half, junior
Christopher Vargas sent a corner kick from the lower left side of the pitch into the box, where de Jong soared above everyone and headed the ball into the net. Parente doubled the JWU lead when he knocked a pass from senior
Carlos Andrade into the lower right corner of the net at 75:10.
Endicott got on the board with 2:54 remaining in regulation but was held scoreless the rest of the way. Junior
Alexander Nardolillo made four saves to run his record to 4-3-3. Parente and freshman
Carson Merluzzo led all student-athletes with four shots apiece.
