Nor'easters rally past Wildcats in overtime, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Zofia Bangs scored a pair of goals for the JWU (Providence) field hockey team in a 4-3 overtime loss to the University of New England Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Senior Emma Ferrara added her fourth of the season for the Wildcats (5-3, 2-1 CNE), who were outshot 39-10 – including 14-2 in overtime. Junior Sophia Brea finished the contest with 20 saves.

Following a scoreless first which saw UNE hold a 6-0 edge in shots, Bangs and Ferrara scored less than five minutes apart in the second to put the home team in front 2-0. The Nor'easters (5-51-2 CNE) got on the board with 18 seconds remaining in the third before tying the game three minutes into the fourth.

UNE then grabbed a 3-2 lead with 3:17 remaining in regulation before Bangs knocked home a pass from senior Caitlin Quinn to tie the game. Shelly Tremblay's second goal of the contest with 50 seconds left in the first overtime won it for the Nor'easters.

Quinn finished the afternoon with a pair of apples. Bangs and Ferrera each took two shots to pace JWU.
