Ava Gaudette scored goals for the JWU (Providence) field hockey team in a 3-2 penalty shootout loss to Westfield State University Wednesday evening in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Susannah Brown recorded assists for the Wildcats, who outshot the Owls 38-19 – including 10-4 in overtime – but saw their record move to 5-2 with the loss. Sophomore

Bangs opened the scoring at 9:03 with her sixth goal of the season. After Westfield State tied the score late in the first, Gaudette put JWU ahead 2-1 just before halftime with a goal at 29:47 of the opening half.
The Owls pulled even at two with a marker 4:19 into the third quarter, and the game remained deadlocked through regulation and overtime. In the shootout, the visitors outscored the Wildcats 3-1 to steal the win.

Sophia Brea combined to make six saves. Emma Gniadek stole the show for the Owls as she notched 24 saves to backstop her team to victory.
