Reed tosses no-hitter as Wildcats sweep Buccaneers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JWU (Providence) junior Jillian Reed tossed her first collegiate no-hitter in game two against Massachusetts Maritime to propel the softball team to a doubleheader sweep of the Buccaneers Wednesday evening in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Highlights: Game One / Game Two

Game One: Wildcats 8, Buccaneers 2
Sophomore Jessica Forneiro singled in a run in the third and another in the fifth with a double down the left field line to spark the Wildcats to a game one win. Senior Caroline Amorelli also drove in a pair as JWU notched 11 hits to back senior starter Katie Scheid, who fanned seven in her seventh win of the season. Senior Mackenzie Clee, sophomore Chloe Brunelle, and freshman Morgan Pelletier also collected an RBI.

Game Two: Wildcats 10, Buccaneers 0 (5 inn.)
Reed walked one and struck out five in five innings of work to record her fifth win of the season. The Wildcats scored two in the first before a home run off the bat of junior Mady Lyons in the third pushed the lead to 3-0. JWU then blew the game open with seven runs in the fourth, highlighted by two-run doubles from sophomore Macy Pagano and senior Hailey Martins. Pagano finished the contest 2-for-3 while Clee drew three walks and scored twice.
