Softball bounces back to sweep Simmons

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Simmons University Sunday afternoon at Daly Field.

Game One: Wildcats 5, Sharks 1
Senior Caroline Amorelli laced a two-run triple and freshman Morgan Pelletier launched a two-run home run in support of senior starting pitcher Katie Scheid. The Hightstown, New Jersey native scattered six hits and allowed one run while fanning seven to move to 6-5 on the season. Senior Mackenzie Clee collected two hits and also drove in a run for JWU.

Game Two: Wildcats 11, Sharks 3 (5 inn.)
Sophomore Macy Pagano cleared the bases with a triple in the first and classmate Jessica Forneiro notched a pair of run-scoring singles to spark the offense. Pelletier plated two with a double in the fifth as the Wildcats provided more than enough run support for junior Jillian Reed, who gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks and three punchouts in five innings of work. Clee, along with junior Mady Lyons and sophomore Amanda Madigan, all picked up one RBI.
