Softball cruises to pair of wins over Dean

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team outscored Dean College 33-5 in a doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 23, Bulldogs 0 (5 inn.)
Senior Caroline Amorelli belted a three-run home run in the third and added a two-run shot in the sixth as the Wildcats pounded the Bulldogs in the opener. Junior Mady Lyons went 5-for-5 with two run-scoring doubles and four RBI while senior Mackenzie Clee went 4-for-5 with three RBI and classmate Danielle Floyd was 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run single in the second. Junior Jadyn Torres collected three hits and scored three times. JWU blew the game open with 11 runs in the fourth and finished with 23 hits. Senior Katie Scheid was two outs shy of her second collegiate no-hitter as she allowed a one-out single in the fifth in an otherwise flawless outing.

Game Two: Wildcats 10, Bulldogs 5
Freshman Morgan Pelletier launched a three-run home run in the third and Lyons went deep twice to give the Wildcats their sixth-straight win. The Prior Lake, Minnesota native hit a two-run shot in the fourth and added a solo blast in the sixth to close the day with four RBI. Junior Jillian Reed notched her second-straight win as she surrendered nine hits and five runs with one walk and one strikeout in seven innings of work.
