Raiders knock off Wildcats in GNAC action

NASHUA, N.H. – Freshman Matthew Bancroft scored four goals for the JWU (Providence) men's lacrosse team in a 15-5 setback at Rivier University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Joanne Merrill Field.

Sophomore Jack Davis handed out two assists and senior Jackson Vecchio also found the back of the net for the Wildcats (4-5, 1-2 GNAC), who were outshot 37-31 and lost 16-of-24 face-offs. Senior Kyle Marcinko and sophomore Jack Donnelly each collected nine ground balls to pace JWU.

The Wildcats trailed by one (3-2) after one before the Raiders scored five unanswered goals in the second to grab an 8-2 halftime lead. Goals from Bancroft and Vecchio early in the third brought JWU to within four (8-4), however the home team proceeded to rip off the next six goals to put the game out of reach.

Freshman Andrew Sforza played the first half in goal and was credited with four saves. Sophomore Cameron Courchesne made his third appearance of the season in the second half and stopped seven shots. Marcinko paced the Wildcats with five caused turnovers.
