Softball sweeps Pride in GNAC action

WESTON, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) softball team swept Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis (MA) College Friday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field.

Game One: Wildcats 12, Pride 5
Senior Caroline Amorelli laced a two-run single and finished with three RBI as the Wildcats scored four in the seventh to pull away from the Pride. Junior Jadyn Torres and senior Mackenzie Clee drove in runs in the second to spark a four-run inning and stake the visitors to an early 5-0 lead. Amorelli and sophomore Jessica Forneiro plated runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-0 before a sac fly from Clee, followed by run-scoring singles from sophomore Amanda Madigan and reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week Morgan Pelletier in the seventh, extended the lead to 12-3. Senior Katie Scheid surrendered seven hits and three runs (one earned) over seven to even her record at 4-4.

Game Two: Wildcats 2, Pride 0
Madigan scored on a pass ball in the first and Forneiro singled in junior Rachel Gosselin in the seventh to propel the Wildcats to a sweep. Torres, Forneiro, and sophomore Macy Pagano each recorded two hits in support of junior starter Jillian Reed, who held the Pride to two hits over seven for the win.
