Women's Lacrosse wins slugfest with Lancers, 15-12

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kelsey Higgins scored three goals for the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team in a 15-12 win over Worcester State University Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Senior Madeleine Gould struck for four goals and handed out three assists as the Wildcats improved to 5-2 on the season. Seniors Neely Connor and Isabella Nugent also picked up hat tricks while senior netminder Emma Glyman tallied a season-high 16 saves.

JWU outscored the Lancers 5-2 in the second to open up an 8-4 halftime lead. Gould scored three of her four in the first half while Nugent wrapped up her hat trick in the opening 30 minutes as well.

Worcester State used a 7-3 run in the third to pull even at 11 heading to the fourth. The Wildcats moved in front for good at 13-12 on Higgins' second goal of the afternoon and sixth of the season four minutes into the stanza. Junior Mila Kuilan (9:14) and Higgins (3:20) added insurance markers down the stretch to seal with dub.

Connor won eight draw controls, caused two turnovers, and went 2-for-2 on free position attempts while Nugent notched a team-high three ground balls. The Lancers held a 28-23 edge in shots.
