Juan sparks Wildcats to 9-8 win over Ithaca

MARIETTA, Ohio – Senior Trevor Juan recorded two hits and two RBI in his season debut for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 9-8 win over Ithaca College Friday afternoon at the Marietta / BSN SPORTS Invitational at Pioneer Park.

Seniors Zachary Amero and Ryan St. Jean also drove in two runs apiece as the Wildcats upper their record to 4-7 on the season. Freshman Joaquin Cardoso picked up his first college win in relief for JWU, striking out two in 3.0 innings out of the pen.

Down 4-1 heading to the fifth, the Wildcats struck for five runs to move in front. Jimenez plated junior Jack Obert with a single to left, followed by a two-run double off the bat of Juan and a two-run single from St. Jean. They padded their lead in the sixth behind a two-run single from Amero and a run-scoring groundout by senior Xavier Botelho.

The Bombers scored one in the eighth and another in the ninth before sophomore Evan LaMothe slammed the door for his second save of the season. Freshman Yedan Diaz finished the evening with two hits and an RBI.
