NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Freshmen
Isabella Suero and
Grace Jaffray combined for 66 points in a 98-53 win for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team over Norwich University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Suero knocked down 10 triples and now has 79 for the season, passing Alyse Ragaglia, who sank 75 during the 2008-09 season. Jaffray, meanwhile now has 488 points this season, besting the previous mark of 472 set by Ashley Thompson in the 2016-17 campaign.
The win pushes the Wildcats record to 18-2 (8-1 GNAC); the 18 wins is the third-highest win total in program history, one behind the 19 games won by the 2014-15 and 2016-17 squads. JWU sank 19-of-45 from behind the arc (42 pct.) as Suero went 10-of-18 (55.6) and Jaffrey was 4-of-8 (50.0 pct.).
Defensively, the Wildcats forced 24 turnovers which turned into 35 points, and recorded assists on 28 of their 37 field goals. Freshman
Brianne Foley pulled down six of those rebounds to go with 14 points and four assists while Suero also snared six boards and classmate
Gabriela D'Ambrosio filled the stat sheet with five rebounds, three points, three steals, and two assists.
