Brianne Foley scored a team-high 19 points for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team in a 66-61 win over Rivier University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Wildcat Center.
The New Rochelle, New York-native also pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded four steals as the Wildcats rallied from a 67-63 fourth-quarter deficit to pull out their 16ths win of the season against two losses (7-1 GNAC). Classmate
Grace Jaffray played all 40 minutes and filled the stat sheet with 16 points, seven boards, and three steals while sophomore
Alexa Lora knocked down three triples and finished with 13 points.
JWU held a 36-30 halftime lead as Lora was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and led the home team with 13 points. The Wildcats shot 36 percent from the field (13-of-36) and received 10 points and six boards from Foley.
The Wildcats opened up a nine-point lead (46-37) on a triple by freshman
Gabriela D'Ambrosio midway through the third. The Raiders (10-10, 6-3 GNAC) scored 15 of the next 17 points to open up a four-point lead early in the fourth.
With the game tied at 61 and time winding down in regulation, Jaffray drove the lane and converted a layup to put JWU up two. The Raiders missed at the other end and fouled Suero, who calmly sank two with 13 seconds remaining to push the lead to 65-61.
The Wildcats closed the contest shooting 34 percent and were outrebounded 48-46. Rivier connected on 35 percent of its shots.
