Avery Hall stopped 36 shots to lift the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over Nichols College Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.
Senior
Kylie O'Keefe scored for the second-straight outing as the Wildcats moved to 2-1-0 on the season (2-0-0 CNE). Hall, meanwhile, was stellar between the pipes in her collegiate debut for head coach
Maddy Santore, who also saw freshman
Annalise MacPhee collect her first collegiate assist.
O'Keefe broke the scoreless tie 14:10 into the second when she finished off a 3-on-0 break with her second of the season. Freshmen
Giovanna Gulinello and MacPhee trailed O'Keefe on the play and were credited with assists on the play.
In the third, Davignon took an outlet pass from sophomore
Jordan Hopping and broke in alone for her first of the season with 4:15 remaining to double the lead. The Bison (2-2-0, 0-2-0 CNE) climbed to within one with a bank shot with 21 seconds remaining.
Junior
Brynn Leahy found her way onto the scoresheet for JWU with the secondary assist on Davignon's tally. Nichols outshot the Wildcats 18-4 in the third and finished with a 37-21 edge. Sophomore
Reagan Safko blocked a game-high six shots while Leahy was credited with five.
