PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Freshman
Roman Wainwright scored his second goal of the season in the third to give the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team a 1-1 tie with Worcester State University Saturday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Lynch Arena.
Wainwright also scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Wildcats moved to 1-0-1 on the season. Sophomore
Maxim Zinchenko stopped 35 shots between the pipes for JWU as well as both Lancer shootout attempts.
Worcester State jumped out to a 1-0 lead 3:31 into the contest with a PP goal from Brady Carpenter. In the third, freshman
Zachary Brady sent a breakout pass up to junior
Brad Crook, who found Wainwright in the slot for the tying goal at 7:16.
In the shootout, Zinchenko turned aside Christian Howanitz before sophomore
Noah LaFleur beat WSU goalie Sal Carabelli with a backhand to give the home team a 1-0 edge. After Zinchenko stoned Carpenter, Wainwright slid the puck through the legs of Carabelli for the winner.
JWU was outshot 36-22 and went 0-for-4 on the PP. Brady and junior
Joe Freeman each blocked a team-high four shots.
