Alvin Baez poured in a game-high 41 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a 77-75 loss to Framingham State University Saturday night in non-conference action at the Wildcat Center.
The Providence, Rhode Island native shot 15-of-24 from the field (63 pct.) and snared 12 rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Sophomore
Azariah Harrison added 17 points and two steals while freshman
Khalil Thompson chipped in with eight points and two dimes off the bench.
The Rams led by 19 at 57-38 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half before 14-straight points from Baez sparked a 28-3 run and put the Wildcats ahead by six (66-60) with 4:16 remaining.
Later, Baez converted a layup with 23 seconds remaining to push the JWU lead back to five at 75-70. Framingham's Joshua Saint Jean made an and-1 layup to cut the Rams deficit to two (75-73) and, following a JWU turnover at the other end, Lorenzo Washington tied the game at 75 with a layup with 11 seconds on the clock.
After another Wildcat turnover, Saint Jean made a layup and was fouled (missed FT) with one second remaining to give the Rams the lead and the win. Framingham State finished the contest shooting 50 percent compared to 47 percent for the home team.
