PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Sophomore
Jordan Hopping scored her third goal of the season 1:34 into overtime and freshman
Avery Hall stopped 28 shots for the JWU (Providence) women's hockey team in a 1-0 overtime win over Curry College Saturday evening in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.
Sophomore
Grace Adams and
Kailin Kane were credited with assists on the game-winner for the Wildcats (4-2-0, 3-1-0 CNE), who snapped an 0-for-22 skid on the PP with Hopping's tally. Hall, meanwhile, improved to 2-0-0 on the season and the shutout was the first of her collegiate career.
The Colonels (5-2-1, 3-2-1 CNE) outshot the Wildcats 27-24 through 60 minutes of regulation time. In overtime, Curry was accessed a minor penalty for hooking at :39 and the Wildcats registered four shots with the extra attacker.
After freshman
Ashley Bergeron won an offensive zone draw, the puck made it way to Kane, who, let go of a shot that whistled wide of the net. Hopping pounced on the puck and tucked a backhander inside the right post to end JWU's three-game skid to Curry.
The Wildcats killed off all three Curry PP opportunities on the afternoon. Hall, meanwhile, was stellar between the pipes for head coach
Maddy Santore, and no save was larger than a stop on Tommi Nash's breakaway with under five minutes remaining in regulation.
After being credited with just five blocked shots in their last outing, JWU blocked 13 in front of Hall on Saturday, including two each from senior
Kylie O'Keefe and
Allyson Barry, and sophomore
Cailean Corbally.
