Warburton nets hat trick in 4-2 win over Hartford

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Sophia Warburton picked up her first collegiate hat trick in a 4-2 win for the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team over the University of Hartford Tuesday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Jamie Davies also found the back of the net as the Wildcats ran their win streak to three and evened their record at 7-7-1 on the season (5-2-0 CNE). Senior Sophia Iovino, sophomore Marisa Krosky, and freshmen Camila Leiva, Ava Scotti, and Sofia Soares all collected an assist in a match which saw the Hawks (8-3-2, 3-3-0 CNE) outshoot the home team 24-17.

Davies knocked in a corner kick from Iovino near the left post at 14:15 to open the scoring. Less than 10 minutes later, Soares fed Warburton with a seam pass, and the junior split the defense and chipped a shot inside the right post on a breakaway for a 2-0 lead.

Scotti lofted a free kick into the box with seven minutes remaining in the opening half that Krosky redirected with a header and onto the foot of Warburton for her fifth goal of 2025. After the Hawks cut their deficit to 3-1 with a goal at 61:19, Warburton headed in a cross from Leiva three minutes later to restore JWU's three-goal cushion.

Freshman Kyla Stamilio – who was named CNE Rookie of the Week earlier in the day – recorded seven saves to improve to 6-3-0. Warburton paced JWU with nine shots.
