Field Hockey blanks Hartford on Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Rayne Millett and sophomore Ava Gaudette scored goals for the JWU (Providence) field hockey team in a 2-0 win over the University of Hartford Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action on Senior Day at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Juniors Ava Pontes and Emily Downing, along with senior Emma Ferrara, all collected assists for the Wildcats (7-5, 3-2 CNE), who outshot the Hawks 30-1.

Gaudette scored the only goal JWU needed 1:37 into the second quarter off a corner started by Downing. Gaudette took a pass from Pontes and let go of a shot that found the far left corner.

In the third, Millett one-timed a pass from Ferrara past the Hartford keeper to double the Wildcats lead. Sophomore Susannah Brown finished the contest with a game-high seven shots for JWU.

Prior to the start of the match, the Wildcats honored seniors Ferrara, Zofia Bangs, Samantha Blahut, Caitlin Quinn, and Rebecca Johnson for their contributions to the program.
