ST. PAUL, Minn. – Freshman
Grace Adams scored a pair of goals – including the game-winner in the third period – to propel the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over St. Catherine University Saturday night in non-conference action at Drake Arena.
Senior netminder
Sofia Tamayo stopped 22 of 24 shots between the pipes to earn her second win of the season for the Wildcats (5-6-1), who are one win shy of matching last season's total with 13 regular season contests remaining.
St. Catherine – which outshot JWU 26-21 – opened the scoring 27 seconds into the first, however Adams' fourth of the season at 6:02 tied the game at one. Freshman
Kailin Kane gave JWU a 2-1 lead early in the second before Adams struck again at 5:03 of the middle stanza to make it 3-1.
The home team cut its deficit to one with 13:13 remaining in regulation but were unable to pull even despite outshooting the Wildcats 14-9 over the final 20 minutes of action. Kane led the visitors with five shots, and senior
Madi Fox and junior
Allyson Barry were each blocked two shots for JWU.
