Women's Basketball opens GNAC play with 20-point win at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Freshman Grace Jaffray scored a game-high 23 points for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team in an 86-66 win at Elms College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Picknelly Arena.

Jaffray was a perfect 8-fo-8 from the charity stripe and also pulled down 11 rebounds as the Wildcats (10-1) ran their win streak to four. Classmate Isabella Suero knocked down four triples and finished with 18 points, six boards and four dimes in 32 minutes while sophomore Alexa Lora filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six assists, five boards and two steals.

JWU shot 34 percent from the field, connected on 20-of-26 from the line (77 percent), and scored 18 points off turnovers. The Wildcats held a six-point lead at halftime (42-36) before blowing the game open in the third, outscoring the Blazers 30-15 behind 13 from Suero to open up a 19-point lead.

Defensively, the visitor held Elms to 30 percent shooting (20-of-66) and turned 15 Blazer turnovers into 18 points.
