NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman
Grace Jaffray dropped in a game-high 32 points for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team in a 86-74 win at Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Hogan Sports Center.
The six-time conference rookie of the week also pulled down a game-high 12 boards and handed out five assists as the Wildcats moved to 15-2 on the season (6-1 GNAC), which matches the best 17-game stretch in program history; the 2015-16 squad also opened the season 15-2 and finished with a 24-4 mark.
Freshman
Brianne Foley filled the stat sheet with 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals for a JWU team which shot 46 percent from the field and canned seven triples. Classmate
Isabella Suero dropped in 14 points and dished out grabbed three rebounds while junior
Mikayla Caruso netted 12 points to go with eight boards for the Wildcats, who were outrebounded 37-33 and turned 23 Chargers turnovers into 17 points.
The Chargers, meanwhile, shot 46 percent from the field but hurt themselves at the charity stripe, where they made just 12 of their 26 attempts (46 percent). They also committed 23 turnovers which essentially washed the fact that they shot 46 percent (2-of-16 three-pointers).
