Grace Jaffray dropped in a game-high 29 points to propel the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team to an 81-66 win over Albertus Magnus College Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) at the Wildcat Center.
The reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week went 5-for-7 from downtown and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe, and also pulled down 12 boards to help the Wildcats improve to 1-4 2 on the season (5-1 GNAC). Classmate
Brianne Foley notched a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards to go with five dimes and three blocks, and freshman
Isabella Suero also connected on five triples and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Junior
Mikayla Caruso pulled down nine rebounds in 37 minutes of action for JWU, which shot 42 percent (28-of-66) and scored 16 fast break points. The Wildcats weathered an early push by the Falcons, who opened up an early five-point in the second quarter before the home team closed the half on a 15-7 run to lead 41-38 at the break. Jaffray and Foley combined for 29 of JWU's points.
The Wildcats opened the second half on an 11-0 run tom open up a 52-38 advantage behind six from Jaffray and five from Foley. The lead swelled to 17 on a layup from Foley with 2:56 on the clock in the third and never dipped below nine the rest of the way.
