Wildcats throw up five goals in win over Golden Bears

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team cruised to a 5-2 win at Western New England University Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Olympia Ice Center.

Senior Sam Band, junior Cam Martin, and freshman Bret Beale all tallied a goal and an assist for the Wildcats, who climbed above the .500 mark for the first time this season at 8-7-1 (3-5-1 CNE). Sophomore netminder Jake Inzirillo recorded 39 saves to earn his fifth win of the season as JWU was outshot the Golden Bears, 41-38.

JWU scored three unanswered goals in the second to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead. Band tied the game at one with his second of the season at 4:00 before goals from freshman Cullen Hennessy at 6:36 and Martin at 9:03 pushed the lead to two.

The Golden Bears climbed to within one with a PP goal at 10:37, but Beale quickly restored the two-goal lead for JWU with his team-leading seventh tally less than two minutes later. Freshman Luke Gaffney capped the scoring 44 seconds later with his third tuck of 2024-25.

Sophomore Harout Torosian, Ryan Walsh, and Chris Alexander, along with freshman Joseph Sciabarra and graduate student Noel Parker, all racked up assists in the win. WNE scored both of its goals with the man advantage while JWU finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play.
