Men's Basketball falls to Monks in GNAC action

STANDISH, Maine – The JWU (Providence) men's basketball team was defeated by St. Joseph's (ME) 92-64 Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Harry Alfond Center.

Senior Josh Zangerle paced the Wildcats with 13 points to go with five boards and four steals as JWU, which also received 13 points off the bench from graduate student Sean Duke and senior Chris Botolino. Duke was credited with a team-high five steals.

The Monks outrebounded the Wildcats 55-28 – including 19-7 on the offensive glass – and shot 46 percent from the field (36-of-78), collecting assists on 30 of those buckets. The home team saw five student-athletes hit double-figures in scoring, led by Julian Llopiz and Silvano Ismail with 16 points each.

The Wildcats trailed by 18 at halftime (47-29) as the Monks knocked down eight 3-pointers and shot 49 percent. The visitors were unable to cut their deficit to single digits in the second half.
