NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshmen
Grace Jaffray and
Brianne Foley combined for 49 points to lift the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team to a 90-58 win at Mitchell College Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall Center.
Jaffray knocked down 11-of-20 from the field and finished with 27 points to go with 12 boards while Foley connected on three triples and closed the day with 22 points, seven boards and four dimes. Classmate
Isabella Suero rattled home four 3-pointers and had 14 points for JWU, which held a 54-41 edge on the glass and forced 17 turnovers.
Junior
Mikayla Caruso filled the stat sheet with 10 rebounds, seven points, three steals, and two assists, and both senior
Maiyah Johnson and freshman
Gabriela D'Ambrosio scored five points. The Wildcats held a 46-27 lead at the break behind 21 from Jaffray before putting the game away in the third, outscoring the Mariners 29-12. In that frame, Foley went off for 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists in just eight minutes.
JWU finished the afternoon shooting 38 percent from the field (35-of-92) and drained a total of 12 three-pointers.
