Men's Basketball clipped at Mitchell, 71-67

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Josh Zangerle and junior Izaiah Shaw-Glen each scored 13 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a 71-67 loss at Mitchell College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Yarnall Center.

Graduate student Mike Rogers came off the bench to score 11 points in 18 minutes for the Wildcats (3-9, 1-2 GNAC), who also received 10 points from freshmen Roel Figueroa and RJ Jones. Senior Jonah Phang, meanwhile, pulled down 10 rebounds and handed out three assists as JWU shot 39 percent from the field and made 16-of-19 from the charity stripe.

The Mariners held a two-point halftime lead with Rodgers eight points paving the way for JWU. Mitchell led by as many as eight (46-38) early in the second half before a basket from graduate student Sean Duke capped an 8-0 run and tied the game at 46.

The home team regained a six-point lead at 56-50 with less than eight to go in regulation. The Wildcats clawed their way back to within one point on two occasions, the second of which came with 1:10 on a free throw from Shaw-Glen, and had three chances in the final minute to tie or take the lead.
