Women's Soccer moves to 2-0-0 with shutout win over Elms

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Emily DeRoehn scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team's 4-0 win over Elms in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both Wednesday night at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Freshman and reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week Marcie Iannico netted her second goal in as many matches for the Wildcats (2-0-0), who also saw freshman Bella Vena pick up her first collegiate tally. JWU outshot the Blazers 30-1 and held an 8-0 edge in corners.

DeRoehn scored the only goal the four-time defending conference champions would need 7:08 into the match before Iannico doubled the lead at 27:41. The Wildcats stretched their lead 4-0 with two goals in a span of 3:43 late in the first staff as DeRoehn converted a penalty kick and Vena recorded an unassisted goal.

Senior Carly McCrumb did not record a save in her first appearance of the season in goal for JWU. DeRoehn led all student-athletes with four shots.
