Bantams deal Wildcats one-goal loss at SMAC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Emily DeRoehn scored her third penalty kick goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Trinity (CT) Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Senior Carly McCrumb recorded a pair of saves in goal for the Wildcats, who moved to 7-3-0 with the defeat. The Bantams – who struck for a pair of goals in the second half – were outshot 12-9 but left 'The Ocean State' with their second win of the season (2-6-0).

The Wildcats and Bantams played to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes of a match which saw JWU outshoot the visitors 5-4. Alyssa Keane opened the scoring with her second of the season at 64:50 before Sara Reiger doubled the Trinity lead less than 15 minutes later.

DeRoehn cut the Wildcats deficit in half with less than seven minutes remaining, scoring into the lower left side of the net on the PK. JWU was unable to convert any of its four second-half corner kicks into a marker.

DeRoehn was one of four JWU student-athletes credited with two shots.
