Softball takes care of business at home against Pride

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Regis (MA) College on Monday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex, winning game one 9-4 and game two 16-3 (5 innings).

Game One: Wildcats 9, Pride 4
Junior Caroline Amorelli tied the game in the first with a three-run jack and classmate Danielle Floyd left the yard in the second with her first collegiate home run to put the home team in front for good. Freshman Macy Pagano added a two-run single later in the frame and graduate student Hailey Erickson picked up two hits and an RBI in the opener. Senior Sage Borkowski came on in relief and pitched two innings of shutout ball to record her second win in two days.

Game Two: Wildcats 16, Pride 3
JWU struck for four runs in the first and never looked back en route to their fifth win in their last six outings. Erickson laced a two-run double and finished with three hits and three RBI while Amorelli, along with freshmen Gabby Bellamore and Olivia Mason, all collected two RBI. Sophomore Emma Schweitzer singled in the fourth for her first RBI of the season, and junior Katie Scheid allowed just one hit and struck out five in four innings of work to move to 6-3 on the season.
