PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team split its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Simmons University Saturday action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 6, Sharks 0
Junior Caroline Amorelli drove in the first run of the game with a single in the third and another in the fifth on a sac fly to spark the Wildcats in game one. Senior Julia Huzi plated another with a bunt single and also scored for JWU, which received seven innings of shutout ball from junior Katie Scheid. She held the Sharks to five hits and walked a pair to go with five strikeouts to earn her ninth win of the season.

Game Two: Sharks 7, Wildcats 2
Amorelli went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and an RBI double for the Wildcats, who fell behind 4-0 after one and were never able to recover. Junior Mackenzie Clee drove in a run with a single to left and freshman Amanda Madigan brought in another for the home team. Sophomore Jillian Reed pitched her best game of the season in relief of senior starter Sage Borkowski, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out a season-high six in 4.2 innings of work.
