Offense shines on Senior Day in sweep of Elms

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Elms College Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 17, Blazers 1 (5 inn.)
Sophomore Mady Lyons with 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and six RBI while graduate student Hailey Erickson and senior Julia Huzi each collected three hits for the Wildcats, who scored six in the first and 11 in the second. Senior Sage Borkowski belted her first collegiate home run and drove in two, and also allowed seven hits and one run in five innings of work in the circle to earn her third win of the season. Junior Mackenzie Clee had a pair of hits and scored three times.

Game Two: Wildcats 16, Blazers 0 (5 inn.)
Junior Caroline Amorelli had a two-run double and drove in three while Erickson went 4-for-4 with an RBI triple, an RBI double, and four RBI as 13 different JWU student-athletes recorded at least one hit. Freshman Sam Bosques went 2-for-2 and drove in a run in the fourth while classmates Jessica Forneiro and Olivia Mason, along with Huzi, Lyons, juniors Danielle Floyd and Hailey Martins, and sophomore Jadyn Torres, all recorded one RBI. Freshman Brianna Ghilardi held the Blazers to two hits while striking out five to secure her first collegiate win.
