JWU downs St. Jopseh's (ME) in rematch of GNAC Championship, 13-7

STANDISH, Maine – Senior Maris DiBeneditto and junior Madeleine Gould combined for six goals for the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team in a 13-7 win at St. Joseph's (ME) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Thursday afternoon at the SJC Sports Complex.

DiBeneditto scored four goals while Gould went for two goals, four assists, and a team-high five draw controls for the Wildcats, who improved to 10-4 on the season and 8-1 in conference play. Sophomore Izzy Babb collected two goals and two assists while senior Katie Sloan filled the stat sheet with five ground balls, two goals, two draw controls, one assist, and one caused turnover.

JWU outscored the Monks 5-2 in the third quarter to turn a one-goal halftime lead (4-3) into a 9-5 advantage after 45 minutes of play. The Wildcats opened the fourth with three-consecutive goals from Sloan, Babb, and junior Neely Connor to extend their lead to 12-5 with nine minutes remaining.

Connor racked up a game-high seven ground balls for the visitors, who also received three caused turnovers from Nugent and 12 saves from junior netminder Emma Glyman.

The win puts the Wildcats in the driver's seat to host at least the first two rounds of GNAC playoffs if they can defeat Simmons and Dean in their final two regular season contests.
