Seahawks leave Providence with two wins over Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to in-state rival Salve Regina University Tuesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Seahawks 4, Wildcats 2
Junior Caroline Amorelli went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the sixth, and graduate student Hailey Erickson stole home on the backend of a double steal for JWU. Junior Julia Huzi and sophomore Jadyn Torres each collected a hit in a contest which saw the Seahawks score three in the seventh to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Junior Katie Scheid worked the first 3.1 innings for JWU and allowed five hits and one run while striking out three.  Sophomore Jillian Reed took the loss, allowing three unearned runs to go with four strikeouts in 3.2 IP.

Game Two: Seahawks 5, Wildcats 2
Erickson and Amorelli laced back-to-back doubles in the fifth to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead before Salve Regina scored three times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh. Amorelli finished with three of JWU's eight hits in support of junior Sage Borkowski, who surrendered 10 hits and five runs in 6.2 innings of work to fall to 2-1.
