Amorelli's two home runs propel Wildcats to sweep over USJ

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Caroline Amorelli smacked a pair of three-run home runs and drove in eight for the JWU (Providence) softball team, which swept a pair of games from the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 9, Blue Jays 0 (5 inn.)
Amorelli belted a three-run home run in the first and plated another with a sac fly in the fourth to spark the Wildcats in the opener. Freshman Amanda Madigan picked up an RBI single in the third and finished with two RBI while graduate student Hailey Erickson picked up an RBI single and scored twice. Junior Mackenzie Clee recorded her first win of the season, taking a no-hitter to the fifth before settling for a one-hitter with three strikeouts over five.

Game Two: Wildcats 12, Blue Jays 4 (5 inn.)
Sophomore Mady Lyons launched her first run of the season in the first, and the Wildcats scored four times in the third and six in the fourth to improve to 6-0 in conference play (12-12 overall). Amorelli's fourth round tripper of the season came in the third before Madigan drove in two with a single to right in the fourth. Clee and senior Julia Huzi also collected RBI hits in support of junior Katie Scheid, who moved to 7-4 on the season. She allowed two hits and one unearned run over four to go with one walk and four strikeouts.
